Smythe Academy believes in fostering its student’s abilities so that they can reach their full potential, and their SEVA Studio is a great example of their success. In their studio, technology is used as a jumping off point in order to tap in to their native abilities and inspire them to continue down their path of education so they truly thrive at school. Students are also able to collaborate and work on projects that are meaningful to them which further strengthens their bond to school. An incredible resource for students is Smythe’s video teacher Mr. Hatfield, who has been teaching media since 2016. This media course teaches students all the technical skills such as directing, acting, writing scripts, staging, lighting, how to operate camera equipment, as well as how to use programs such as Final Cut Pro to edit the footage for production. With these skills, students provide daily news content for their fellow students and teachers through the Knights News broadcast. Community is also very important to Smythe Academy as students are encouraged to contribute through community video projects as well as produce videos for competitions such as movie nights and academy awards.
