Defining 2020:
The pandemic pushed me to find new, innovative way to interview people so that they were comfortable and socially distanced. Some interviews were held outside and others were indoor with masks. Though this was cumbersome, the process actually taught me more about video making than I had previously known. I was forced to use a green screen and adapt to noise challenges. On a side note, the pandemic also gave me extra time to be able to delve deep into the process of news stories and now I take notice of techniques and tips that I get from everyday news stories.
Educational Message:
With this video, I wanted to educated students on the plethora of available occupations as we get further along in our educational process. I hoped to showcase careers that my classmate’s parents have as part of our school news segment. When people talk about their day-to-day work, I have been told it is important to find something that evokes passion. For kids like me, it is hard to have much exposure to different careers because we usually only know what our own relatives do for a living. With Kaser’s Career Corner, I wanted to be able to educate our student body on a variety of careers that exist in our community. In addition, I was sure to get a variety of types of occupations and genders. In total, I created 7 segments and interviewed a global marketer for the state, a middle school teacher from SJUSD, a lawyer from the state department, an oncologist. a real estate agent, a yoga teacher, and finally, the owner of an Italian car service shop. I also wanted to encourage my classmates to participate by nominating their own parents. Getting others involved in the process, helps everyone feel proud of their community accomplishments.
This particular episode is focused on Mr. Cesar’s business of repairing and restoring exotic Italian cars. The real take home message from Mr. Cesar is his passion for a job he loves and the gratifying relationship he has with his clients.
