Defining 2020:
Throughout the production of our documentary, we faced many challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In order to stay safe, we did not work on this documentary together, in person. We had to do all of our research and planning over zoom meetings and facetime calls, which made it difficult to come up with a cohesive plan for our documentary. Additionally, we conducted interviews via zoom as well, which presented its own challenges. With free zoom accounts, you are only able to do 45 minute meetings, so that limited our ability to gain a deeper understanding of our topic. Once during a meeting, the zoom call ended while our interviewee, Senator Pan, was speaking, which was very frustrating for us. Once we had collected all our clips, it was also very difficult to edit the video. We had to screen share our WeVideo page on zoom, which was often too much for our computers, which led to lags, unsaved changes, and overall frustration. However, we were able to push through all of these obstacles to create our documentary.
Educational Message:
Our documentary was created with the intention of teaching viewers about the large role healthcare accessibility plays in everyone’s lives. We hope to teach others that the US healthcare system still has a long way to go before it provides adequate healthcare for those in need, and that there are proposals underway to begin the process toward more adequate healthcare for all Americans.
