Program Idea
The motives behind this video were born when Karlyn was faced with an injustice on her campus due to her sexuality. More directly, when she was excluded from winning homecoming royalty with her partner, along with being targeted on her campus by students and staff when expressing her sexuality. Coincidentally, a documentary project was assigned in her intro to video production class and it seemed to be a perfect platform to address this problem.
Message
We want to encourage students and teachers to take initiative and become educated about how to not only accept, but rather embrace the students they encounter in the LGBTQ+ community. We believe that every student deserves a safe place within their school because not every individual is lucky enough to have confidence and support within their home. A safe educational community is established when a relationship of trust between staff and students is nurtured. This video sets the stage for that conversation to begin.
