There are many ways to integrate social emotional learning into academic content and practices. In SCUSD, one way that we’re looking at SEL/Academic integration is through the use of a SEL Skill Development Framework which aims to connect skills to academic learning in an intentional and explicit way. The idea is that as students learn a SEL skill through a low affective activity, they will build a reference point that can be applied in high quality academic tasks, and reflect on both academic tasks and SEL skill in order to deepen learning.
