White Rock Students Win Free Bikes
Students at White Rock Elementary School in Rancho Cordova who made it to school every day, on time and ready to learn began their summers on a high note with a new bicycle, thanks to the generosity of several community partners.
During a school assembly on May 22, White Rock Elementary students who have had perfect attendance in a given month this school year had their names entered into a raffle for one of 11 new bicycles, donated by Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Station 61.
Also, the names of one boy and one girl who had 100 percent attendance all year long were drawn in a raffle for two brand new bicycles, donated by financial services company Horace Mann.
This year, the number of White Rock students with perfect attendance for the entire year rose from one to eight after the school implemented its monthly recognition program. The school has also seen an overall increase in attendance: for example, during the school’s second trimester, 72 students had perfect attendance, compared to 47 students during the same time period in 2013-14.
Students are better prepared to learn when they show up to school every day and on time. White Rock’s recognition program has not only encouraged and rewarded good attendance, but helped ensure all students are getting the most out of their classroom time and have the opportunity to improve academically.
