Sacramento City College Dental Clinic

September 8th, 2016 SECC News SECC

Sacramento City College Dental Clinic

The Sacramento City College Dental Health Programs provide innovative and comprehensive education to prepare a diverse student population for licensure and practice as Registered Dental Assistants and Registered Dental Hygienists.

Through didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences, the program prepares students for employment in a variety of opportunities available in the field and the community. The programs serve the community by providing primary dental hygiene care and preventive services to the public and life-long learning opportunities for dental health professionals.

The SCC Dental department is composed of two programs:  A dental assisting program and a dental hygiene program. Both programs require a full-time commitment.

The Dental Assisting program of study is an 11-month program and provides the opportunity to acquire a Certificate or an Associate of Science degree in Dental Assisting.  Classes begin in August each year with completion of the program the following July. At the completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take both State and National licensure examinations.

The Dental Hygiene program of study is a two-year Associate of Science degree program. Classes begin in the fall semester each year on a traditional semester schedule, with completion in May of the second year.

Both Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting students work in the dental clinic where students provide supervised preventive and therapeutic treatment.  This clinic is open to the public as well as to students, faculty and staff of Los Rios Community College District.  Fees are waived for current students, faculty and staff, and are very reasonable for the general public.
