This year’s Allan Hinderstein Award honors Joann Darrow, a 5th grade Rapid Learner Program teacher in the San Juan Unified School District. All students at Del Paso Manor Elementary School benefit from Joann’s commitment to integrating video as a tool for opening a world of learning possibilities. Her SEVA Studio Lab is a hub of interactivity, with students collaborating on a wide range of projects right in her classroom.
With Joann’s guidance, her students have entered over 130 videos to the SEVAs since 2012 and Del Manor Elementary students contribute monthly news programs that are shared on the SECC channels. Joann Darrow empowers and challenges students to explore the world through media and to share their vision within and beyond their school.
