School Supply Donation Drive for Butte County Teachers
In November, the Camp Fire devastated Butte County. Days after the fire broke out, Butte and Sacramento education leaders announced a “Sister Schools” partnership. Sacramento County students have been traveling to Butte County to greet and comfort students during rallies and other events.
In addition, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and local school districts collaborate each year on a supply drive organized by Intel called “Helping Teachers – Helping Students.” The program benefits teachers in Sacramento County. However this year, when Sacramento County teachers applied to win supply kits through a lottery they had the option to “pay it forward” and donate their supplies to a Butte County colleague. Overwhelmingly, they said “YES!” and donated close to $41,000 worth of supplies. On February 2, Butte County students and school leaders accepted the donations during the 2019 Sacramento County Academic Decathlon event.
