As California and the Sacramento region progresses through the pandemic emergency, health restrictions continue to be reduced. We are preparing to safely reopen schools, as we follow the guidance of our public health officials and take into account local considerations. Local considerations include the data from the reopening schools and distance learning survey that many parents completed.
We had over one thousand parents complete the reopening schools surveys with 60% indicating a preference for their children learning at school and 40% desiring a blended or distance learning option for the new school year. The survey results are posted on the school district website.
At this time, we are planning to reopen our schools safely on August 13th in the following three ways: first, through a full-time daily school campus learning program, second, through a part-time school campus and home distance learning program and third, through a home school program. Our goal is to implement the three learning programs one trimester at a time, dependent on changing health conditions and family interest.
Option 1: Through our Everyday-All day school campus program, every elementary school and our middle school are planning to provide daily learning that includes core instruction, online learning and wellness activities- all at school. We will safely work together within the health guidelines for social distancing and large group gatherings as required during the August reopening period.
Option 2: Through the Part-Time school campus program, grades 4-8 students would receive core instruction (math, language arts, social studies and science) at school. Students would complete core extension assignments through distance learning at home.
Option 3: Our HomeSchool program includes the following components 1) in person or virtual instruction with a credentialed teacher 2) parents serving as home learning coaches for distance learning and 3) student and family access to neighborhood school opportunities and resources.
Please complete the online interest form that will be emailed to all families. Paper interest forms are also available in the district office at 1018 C. St in Galt. Throughout the summer, we will continue to update you on the progress of our reopening. Again, at this time, and if interest supports the programs described to you, we are preparing to reopen schools in August by providing a daily school campus learning program, part-time on-campus program with home distance learning and a HomeSchool program.
I want to close by sincerely thanking you for your partnership with our teachers, principals, and school staff to support learning services for your child throughout this pandemic emergency. Your continued partnership for learning is valued and fundamental to the successful reopening of our schools for your child and children across the community of Galt. Thank you!
