This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month Natomas Unified School District continue’s to feature students who are making strides and thriving in CTE pathways that are traditionally male-dominated fields. This week, we feature CTE Building and Construction Trades student Hanna. Hanna shares that the pathway helped her hone in on her own academic and career goals, “In the beginning, I wanted to go to college for architecture or engineering, but this class has pushed me more towards construction management, and I’m feeling pretty good about that,” Hanna said.
Mentoring happens at Natomas USD in many formats. They have programs where high school students mentor younger students. Here’s one example of that happening with a group of Inderkum Athletes mentoring student-athletes at Natomas Park Elementary.
This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, Natomas will be featuring students who are making strides, and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. This weeks feature will be CTE Public Safety student Holly. Holly says she loves every aspect of the class, as it has helped her figure out what to pursue as a career and network. “It shaped my career, period. It gave me a career that I didn’t know was an option for me as a police officer, and now it’s guiding me on the process of becoming a police officer,” Holly said.
Natomas Park Elementary early learners happily cheer as they get a visit from ‘Slamson the Lion’, retired Sacramento Kings Center Olden Polynice, Emcee Scott “Fresh” Freshour, Commentator, and retired WNBA player Kayte Christensen. The event was made possible thanks to Sacramento City Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, First 5 California, and Natomas Park Elementary leaders. The kids danced, learned breathing exercises, and were read “Oh the Places You Will Go,” by Dr. Seuss at the event.
This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, Natomas USD will feature students who are making strides, breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. This week, will feature CTE Engineering student Momina. Momina says the class has helped her find her love of robotics. “When I took this class, I learned a lot (of engineering concepts), which will help me in college,” Momina said.
To close the technology gap, many districts provide Chromebooks and other technology devices for students to take to and from school so that learning can continue beyond the classroom. Natomas Unified has provided Chromebooks or similar technology devices to all students who need one to support learning and enrichment. Unfortunately, there is also a challenge with students losing them and breaking them. This video is designed to help students understand how to care and maintain this valuable resource that is being provided by the school district to support them.
Through a collaborative effort with all NUSD schools, students, with the support of staff, facilitated the first LGBTQIA+ Student Conference. The day began with a speaker who educated the audience on the history of LGBTQIA+ and ended with an inspiring and educational student panel. There was delicious food, crafts, informational booths, good music, and much more.
This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month we will feature students who are making strides, breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. This week, we feature CTE Bicycle Technology student Emmie. Emmie loves the class because it integrates math, physics and engineering concepts together into a tangible medium. “I’m an artist. I love to draw and being able to work with these bikes hands-on, teaches me how to see models and bikes from 3D perspectives… I was able to expand my horizons as an artist in this class,” Emmie said.
Feast and Learn with NUSD as we celebrate Black History Month with Chef Vada Galvez and CTE Hospitality students Jerika and Raymond. In this video, the trio share how to cook Chef Vada’s version of baked macaroni and cheese with seafood, what Black History Month means to them, and their personal memories of what makes the dish special.
Learn how to make the Native American dish fry bread, as we celebrate National Native American Heritage Month. NUSD parent Isaac Bojorquez, and his two of his sons, Carlos and Albert, show us how to make, roll, and fry the bread in this video. The Bojorquez family also shares how fry bread was created, their traditions, and, of course, how fry bread tastes.

The Elk Grove Unified School District’s Linked Learning program provides students with an educational experience that extends beyond the classroom and reaches into the future. We strive to guide each student in preparation for college and career. Through our career academies and pathways, students can explore a number of career fields including public service, business, health, engineering, green energy, agricultural science, auto technology and media. Students in career academies join a Linked Learning team of teachers and participate in integrated series of core academic and Career Technical Education (CTE) courses related to a career theme. Students in non-academy career pathways engage in intensive, extended training with a particular career focus. Both academies and pathways offer opportunities for students to earn transferable college credits or industry certifications.
