Natomas USD: Breaking Barriers: CTE Student Hanna

This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month Natomas Unified School District continue’s to feature students who are making strides and thriving in CTE pathways that are traditionally male-dominated fields. This week, we feature CTE Building and Construction Trades student Hanna. Hanna shares that the pathway helped her hone in on her own academic and career goals, “In the beginning, I wanted to go to college for architecture or engineering, but this class has pushed me more towards construction management, and I’m feeling pretty good about that,” Hanna said.

This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, Natomas will be featuring students who are making strides, and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. This weeks feature will be CTE Public Safety student Holly. Holly says she loves every aspect of the class, as it has helped her figure out what to pursue as a career and network. “It shaped my career, period. It gave me a career that I didn’t know was an option for me as a police officer, and now it’s guiding me on the process of becoming a police officer,” Holly said.

Natomas USD: Reading, Breathing, Dancing – Sacramento Kings at Natomas Park Elementary

Natomas Park Elementary early learners happily cheer as they get a visit from ‘Slamson the Lion’, retired Sacramento Kings Center Olden Polynice, Emcee Scott “Fresh” Freshour, Commentator, and retired WNBA player Kayte Christensen. The event was made possible thanks to Sacramento City Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, First 5 California, and Natomas Park Elementary leaders. The kids danced, learned breathing exercises, and were read “Oh the Places You Will Go,” by Dr. Seuss at the event.

This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month, Natomas USD will feature students who are making strides, breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. This week, will feature CTE Engineering student Momina. Momina says the class has helped her find her love of robotics. “When I took this class, I learned a lot (of engineering concepts), which will help me in college,” Momina said.

Natomas USD: Technology, Safety, & Care

To close the technology gap, many districts provide Chromebooks and other technology devices for students to take to and from school so that learning can continue beyond the classroom. Natomas Unified has provided Chromebooks or similar technology devices to all students who need one to support learning and enrichment. Unfortunately, there is also a challenge with students losing them and breaking them. This video is designed to help students understand how to care and maintain this valuable resource that is being provided by the school district to support them.

Natomas USD: Natomas Pride LGBTQIA+ Student Event & Conference

Through a collaborative effort with all NUSD schools, students, with the support of staff, facilitated the first LGBTQIA+ Student Conference. The day began with a speaker who educated the audience on the history of LGBTQIA+ and ended with an inspiring and educational student panel. There was delicious food, crafts, informational booths, good music, and much more.

Natomas USD: Women Breaking Barriers: CTE Bicycle Technology Student Emmie

This National Women’s History Month and Career Technical Education (CTE) Month we will feature students who are making strides, breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. This week, we feature CTE Bicycle Technology student Emmie. Emmie loves the class because it integrates math, physics and engineering concepts together into a tangible medium. “I’m an artist. I love to draw and being able to work with these bikes hands-on, teaches me how to see models and bikes from 3D perspectives… I was able to expand my horizons as an artist in this class,” Emmie said.

Feast and Learn with NUSD as we celebrate Black History Month with Chef Vada Galvez and CTE Hospitality students Jerika and Raymond. Passion and commitment to serving children and families has been the driving force in her educational and professional journey. Dr. Porter has over 25 years’ experience in developing and implementing impactful programs for young children, families, college students, and educators. Dr. Porter currently serves as the Interim Vice-President of Student Services and Equity at American River College in Sacramento, California. Prior to this role she also served as the Dean of Humanities at American River College. Both of these roles include leading and supporting both instructional and student support programs through a culturally reflective lens. Beyond academia, Dr. Porter has collaborated with community-based organizations, local educational agencies, and even the federal government to drive positive changes in the lives of children and their families. These experiences have enriched her understanding and deepened her commitment to fostering equitable educational excellence.

Art in Action is a school-wide art show at Elk Grove High School. Elementary school students visit during the day to watch the students create and perform. Different works of art are on display, everything from photo and graphic design, to theatre and chalk murals. The art show is judged. Several students will be receiving awards for their work!
