21st Century Skills: Social Skills – Reading Emotions
Lesson Overview
We had a whole group discussion using pictures taken of the kids in the class showing different facial expressions. We discussed how reading people’s facial expressions can tell you a lot. After a whole group discussion, the kids worked in groups of 2 or 3 to do a task. They were given 2 facial expressions for each group. The groups brainstormed 2 things: 1) What could have happened to create this expression /feeling and 2) how can you work with someone who has that feeling? How you deal with it will vary depending on the emotion.
21st Century Skill
Interpersonal/Social Skills – Kids need to be aware not only of their emotions/feelings/problem solving, but they need to be aware of those same things in other people.
