For Twin Lakes Elementary School, belonging is a core value for their 6th-grade Kindness Crew, who by organizing the school’s Kindness Week gave younger students the opportunity to receive mentorship from the older students while participating in fun activities. At Pasadena Avenue Elementary School’s first Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, the entire school came together to celebrate belonging by honoring the legacy of a Civil Rights icon who paved the way for all students to feel like they belong in school, regardless of their background. Belonging is also at the heart of the curriculum at Howe Avenue Elementary School, where one 5th-grade class starts each day by reciting a poem titled “I Am You or You Are Me,” in English and Spanish.
