Summer 2008 Classes by TV
This summer, SECC airs on cable classes from the Los Rios Community Colleges and Sac State University. For adult learners and students whose first language is not English, San Juan Adult Education reaches out to the community by offering classes to help students in a variety of areas.
Students can receive credit for distance learning courses and, of course, at home lifelong learners can tune in to improve skills, knowledge or find an enlightening alternative to other television programming.

This arts programming service presents short video clips that touch on all the classic arts disciplines and provides viewers at home and in the classroom an opportunity to learn more about the classic arts through television. Classic Arts Showcase is also a positive way educators can introduce a wide variety of the arts to their students.
Samplings include animation, architectural art, chamber and choral music, dance, folk and museum art, musical theater, opera, orchestra, recital, solo instrumentals and vocals, theatrical performances, classic films and archival documentaries. The program is underwritten by the Lloyd E. Rigler-Lawrence E. Deutsch Foundation, a not-for-profit private foundation providing financial assistance programs to arts-related organizations since 1954. Program content is provided by record and home video companies, public and private archives, the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, the National Gallery of Art and the Library of Congress.

Meet the Author on Cable 15
This series promotes literacy and an interest in reading and writing by giving students direct access to authors who share their personal stories, offer their writing tips and encourage students to “keep reading, keep writing, keep dreaming.” During the half-hour interactive program, authors describe their approach to the writing process and talk about character development.

Starting in July, SECC airs ResearchChannel, programming that offers cutting-edge research of interest to a wide variety of general and niche audiences.
Programs cover the natural sciences, computer sciences and technology,
business and economics, health and medicine, the social sciences, the arts
and humanities and public affairs — and appeal to a wide variety of general and niche audiences. Many medical and technology professionals regard ResearchChannel as a critical source of new information in their fields. Other viewers are excited by the opportunity to delve deeply into topics that have captured their interest.
ResearchChannel was founded by a consortium of leading research and academic institutions to share the valuable work of their researchers with the public.

What is Student DV?
SECC produces Student DV monthly to showcase digital video programs created by Sacramento students. Interviews with student producers, segments of their digital videos and production tips and techniques are included in this action-packed program narrated by two high school students. This unique program showcases student video work, interviews and production tips — all geared to inspire and encourage students to produce educational videos. Since many schools have a multimedia program, Student DV also provides teachers with useful classroom information and helps students to learn more about video production and see what their peers are doing. |
