SECC with Sac-State and Los Rios Community Colleges offers three classes for students and home viewers to continue learning this summer. Take a look:

Los Rios Community Colleges: June 15 - Aug. 5
HEED 300: Health
Achieve a high level of wellness and prevent disease by maximizing both your personal lifestyle and environments and identify the various factors influencing wellness. Topics include mental health, stress management, nutrition, weight control, fitness and disease.

Sac-State (CSUS): June 8 - July 10
GEOL 140: Environmental Geology
Applies geologic data and principles to situations affecting our environment. The geologic study of earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, landslides groundwater and similar topics supplies the background data for lectures on land use and other social choices.

GEOL 7: Natural Disasters
Gain an understanding of various hazards and disasters occurring in the world, the processes involved, the role of science in mitigating disasters and how mushrooming human population growth intensifies the effects of disasters. Study topics include hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes, landslides and meteorite impacts and the probability and risks of each.

For adult learners and students whose first language is not English, these classes reach out to the community in a variety of areas.

This arts programming service presents short video clips that touch on all the classic arts disciplines and provides viewers at home and in the classroom an opportunity to learn more about the classic arts through television. Classic Arts Showcase is also a positive way educators can introduce a wide variety of the arts to their students.

Samplings include animation, architectural art, chamber and choral music, dance, folk and museum art, musical theater, opera, orchestra, recital, solo instrumentals and vocals, theatrical performances, classic films and archival documentaries. The program is underwritten by the Lloyd E. Rigler-Lawrence E. Deutsch Foundation, a not-for-profit private foundation providing financial assistance programs to arts-related organizations since 1954. Program content is provided by record and home video companies, public and private archives, the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, the National Gallery of Art and the Library of Congress.

UCTV, launched by the University of California, provides the public with informational, educational and enrichment programming that draws upon the vast intellectual, scientific and creative talents of the University of California.
